An Indiana Township couple is being assisted by the American Red Cross after their home was heavily damage by fire Thursday afternoon.

An Allegheny County fire marshal is investigating what caused the fire at 225 Indianola Drive around 12:15 p.m.

No injuries were reported. The couple could not immediately be identified.

Red Cross Greater Pennsylvania Region spokesperson Nicole Roschella said her organization provided temporary shelter, comfort kits including blankets and hygiene products to two adults and a pet.

Neighbor Hope Pingree lives atop a hill from where the home burned. She said smoke made its way into her house.

“I had my backdoor open (and) I smelled it,” she said. “I can’t answer how it started. There were seven fire trucks before I even got down the hill. (The residents) are shook up, but they’re out alive.”

Pingree said a cat died in the fire.

Calls to the township fire department were not returned.

Crews from restoration company Boyer & Pentek were seen boarding up the property around 5 p.m.

The house is believed to be a total loss.
