Freeport Area School District officials confirmed Friday that a staff member at Freeport Area Middle School tested positive for covid-19.

The individual was last at the school on Sept. 23 and contact tracing did not reveal any close contacts among students or staff.

The school will not be closed because of the case.

Freeport Area School District officials said they are following the Health Department’s recommendations. The area where the staff member works has been cleaned.

The individual will not return to the school until they have completed the recommended quarantine procedures.

School officials urged parents to continue screening students for covid-19 symptoms.

In a separate case, Freeport Area School District officials confirmed a positive covid-19 case in a member of their athletic staff on Thursday. That case forced them to cancel this week’s football game against Valley.
