Meatloaf dinners are paving the way for exciting Cub Scout activities in the new year.

Pack 186, based out of Guardian Angels Parish in Harrison, hosted a fundraiser dinner Nov. 6 where more than 300 meals left the church kitchen.

“It was the first time we attempted this type of fundraiser, and we did extremely well,” Cubmaster Dan Dobies said.

Proceeds will benefit the 22 Scouts on the pack’s roster and potentially could help new members, too.

Dobies said he hopes to use some of the money to make Scouting more affordable.

“I don’t have an exact number, but in selling just north of 300 individual dinners, we raised enough money to allow both youth members and registered adult leaders to be involved for the 2023 Scouting year free of charge,” Dobies said. “That takes a substantial financial burden off of all our pack families.”

Hosted in the church social hall, Scouts served as waiters for the event, dishing up half-pound portions of meatloaf, smashed red-skinned potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls, desserts and drinks.

“We would like to thank all members of the community who purchased tickets for the fundraiser in support of our organization,” Dobies said.

“So many local businesses and organizations supported our endeavor. Without their help, we couldn’t have pulled it off.”
