Family fun found at annual Fox Chapel Day in McCahill Park

Families throughout the Fox Chapel area flocked to McCahill Park for Fox Chapel’s annual community celebration, Fox Chapel Day, on June 17.

Hundreds of folks enjoyed activities under sunshine and blue skies. There were train rides, an Allegheny Health Network LifeFlight helicopter, balloon artists, face painting, a deejay, food trucks, a beekeeper from Country Barn Farm in Glenshaw and various animals, such as lambs and goats, for families to feed and pet courtesy of Eighty Four-based Barnyard Petting Zoo.

The Fox Chapel Parks Conservancy, Cooper-Siegel Community Library, Fox Chapel Area Adult Education and other groups had information tents. The Allegheny County Police Bomb Squad even brought some empty explosives and other equipment, including a truck, for people to learn about and explore.

“The kids are having so much fun,” said Chris Wilmer of Fox Chapel. “This is an amazing event. I’m so grateful that events like this happen in our area.”

Wilmer brought his family and some of his children’s friends to the park.

Fox Chapel Day is presented by the Fox Chapel Police Department and organized by Sgt. Craig Sorg.

“This is our third year,” Sorg said. “I’m looking for family fun and entertainment to bring people here and have them stay and enjoy themselves. Have fun and also meet their neighbors and first responders.

“I think everything’s going well. We’re going to continue this next year and try to change it up a little bit and make it different. Everyone’s coming up and saying they love the petting zoo, so I think I’m going to have to bring them back next year.”

Planning for the event began in September.
