Tarentum Council President Scott Dadowski said Santa should have a prime spot to park his sleigh when he flies through the borough in a few weeks.

Demolition of 215 Corbet St., a significant building in the heart of town, is expected to begin in days.

“We’re hoping to begin this week,” Code Enforcement Officer Anthony Bruni said.

The work was awarded to AP Wise Excavating for $29,500.

Contractors will take down the building to coincide with council’s plan to open the narrow corridor with landscaping and benches.

The borough bought the former convenience store, a two-story brick building, earlier this summer for $90,000.

The redevelopment will reconfigure the 1,500-square-foot lot to open traffic flow.

As it stands now, the building interrupts traffic flow on Corbet because it juts into the street at Third Avenue.

“Once it’s down, it will just be an empty lot through the winter,” Bruni said.

He is working on plans to landscape and beautify the space in the spring.
