Trees slid down a hillside and struck two homes Tuesday morning along Kittanning Pike in O’Hara, officials said.
Emergency crews responded to the scene just before 6 a.m., according to an Allegheny County 911 supervisor. No one was injured.
The trees hit two homes on Kittanning Pike, Township Supervisor Julie Jakubec said. Crews were working to remove them Tuesday afternoon. A bit of debris came to rest behind a third home.
A family of three lives in one of the houses hit by trees. The other is vacant, Jakubec said.
Jakubec said the family was asked to evacuate their home Tuesday “to err on the side of extreme caution.” They were staying with relatives, she said.
“We’ve asked them and told them not be to there tonight until we can assess everything once the trees are removed,” Jakubec said. “Hopefully by tomorrow morning, we’ll have a definitive answer if they can go back in their home or what needs to happen.”
Jakubec said code enforcement workers and engineers were brought in to assess the situation. A drone also was flown up the hill to see if anything else could come down, she said.
“Once the trees are removed, we’ll be down, and we’ll do an official assessment once we can get a little better view of the hillside,” she said.
