Covid vaccine booster shots are available in New Kensington for those who are eligible to receive them.

Community Health Clinic, at 943 Fourth Ave., began giving booster shots Monday, clinic executive Director Raji Jayakrishnan said.

The clinic has boosters for Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s vaccines. Pfizer boosters are not being provided because the clinic does not have the equipment to meet its ultra-cold storage requirements, she said.

For eligibility, the clinic is following guidelines from the state Department of Health and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the CDC, individuals who got Pfizer or Moderna’s vaccines and are 65 or older or at least 18 and living in long-term care settings, have underlying medical conditions or work or live in high-risk settings are eligible for a booster shot at least six months after their initial series.

For people who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, boosters are recommended for those who are 18 or older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago.

Jayakrishnan said a handful of boosters were given Monday. While the clinic is offering first and second dose vaccinations every weekday, she said they were setting aside Monday afternoons for boosters. They will increase the schedule if there is a higher demand, she said.

Jayakrishnan said the clinic also has flu shots available and is encouraging people to get them as well.

Appointments can be scheduled by calling 724-335-3334.

AHN, UPMC

Allegheny Health Network is giving Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson boosters at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison, spokeswoman JoAnne Clobus said.

They are available from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through the Healthworks Department, near the hospital’s main entrance. Patients can schedule appointments online at MyChart or by calling 412-362-8677.

UPMC is not offering covid vaccine booster shots at its recently opened St. Margaret Family Health Center in New Kensington, spokeswoman Stephanie Stanley said.
