A car found abandoned after being wrecked in New Kensington on Friday morning had been stolen from its owner’s driveway the night before, police Chief Bob Deringer said this week.
Deringer said the car, a Dodge Charger, was stolen in New Kensington sometime after 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
It was found wrecked shortly after 6 a.m. Friday in the 2300 block of Freeport Road, across from Mary Queen of Apostles School. Police and firefighters found the car resting on its driver’s side, with the underside against the front of a detached, three-car garage.
The driver of the car had fled the scene.
Deringer said police do not know how many people were involved with the theft and have no descriptions of any suspects.
“This is an ongoing investigation,” he said.
