Southbound Route 28 traffic was slowed to a crawl Friday morning when a brush fire broke out on the wooded hillside near the RIDC Park exit in O’Hara.

Haze from the fire covered the highway and traffic was reduced to a single lane headed toward Pittsburgh during the morning rush hour.

The fire was reported at 9:15 a.m. and was knocked down by about 10:40 a.m. No injuries have been reported.

O’Hara Township Superintendent of Police Jay Davis said it appeared the blaze was sparked accidentally and was fanned by passing cars and wind.

“There was nothing to suggest it was intentional,” Davis said.
