Allegheny Technologies Inc. will move its Pittsburgh headquarters from Downtown to the Strip District next summer, the company and Burns Scalo Real Estate announced.
Burns Scalo said the specialty materials manufacturer is the first tenant to sign a lease for “The Vision on 15th,” an eight-story, mixed-use building under construction where ATI will occupy about 20,000 square feet — about half the space it now occupies at Six PPG Place.
“That’s due to the adjusted needs brought on by remote work,” ATI spokeswoman Natalie Gillespie said, noting about 100 people will continue to work out of the new space.
ATI described the lease as “long-term,” but the length was not specified.
“There’s no question that the modern workforce has created a flight toward quality office space,” Burns Scalo CEO Jim Scalo said. “The pandemic has only strengthened that movement. Many businesses are taking the opportunity to ‘right-size’ their office space and upgrade their experience.”
Robert S. Wetherbee, ATI board chair, president and CEO, said the new space and “the dynamic energy of the Strip will reinforce ATI’s drive for innovation and collaboration as an industry-leading materials science company.
“It’s great to continue our Pittsburgh presence in a unique and progressive workplace designed for our team’s needs, propelling the culture that’s important for our future,” he said.
Beth Powers, ATI’s chief human resources officer, said the company’s employees want a contemporary space with ample amenities, parking, highway access and natural light.
“We conducted an extensive search with these factors in mind,” she said. “The Vision and the team at Burns Scalo deliver everything we are looking for. This atmosphere will provide the collaborative, forward-focused spirit our employees want and deserve.”
After the ATI lease, 217,000 square feet of office space will remain at The Vision, according to Burns Scalo.
Locally, ATI has facilities in Harrison, Vandergrift, Derry Township and Washington.
The company recently settled a strike by the United Steelworkers Union, after the union ratified a new, four-year labor agreement that runs through Feb. 28, 2025.
