PennDOT could reopen the Route 366 bridge near Millers Lane in Lower Burrell to two-lane traffic as early as Friday or early next week, according to Valerie Petersen, PennDOT spokeswoman.
Route 366, also known as Greensburg Road in Lower Burrell, has been limited to one-lane of traffic regulated by a temporary traffic light because of the nearly $1 million bridge replacement project that began in June.
“We are waiting for to get the weather conditions to apply the final pavement markings and some other small items,” Petersen said.
The 13,000 daily motorists who use that section Route 366 have been able to access the road but at times have sat in traffic waiting for their turn to use the single, alternating lane.
PennDOT chose to use an alternating lane rather than shut down the road completely at the bridge because of the high traffic volume and the lack of a viable detour.
PennDOT replaced the crumbling bridge because it was structurally deficient. Built in 1939, the bridge spans an unnamed tributary of Puckety Creek. The contractor, Pugliano Construction of Pittsburgh, removed the existing 14-foot slab bridge and replaced it with a 15-foot-long, precast box culvert, plus other work.
