We are creeping toward August but there’s still plenty of summer fun yet to come. Here’s what’s going on in and around Westmoreland County this weekend.

Shake the blues
Got the blues? This week’s free SummerSounds concert may just be the remedy you’ve been seeking. Singer/songwriter Vanessa Collier takes the stage in St. Clair Park Friday at 7 p.m.
Blues Music Magazine proclaims, “Collier is a fresh face who comes to the blues stage carrying her reed instruments, a dual degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, a major label debut, almost two years of touring with Joe Louis Walker and a mature musical vision … Collier commands center stage with her vocals, soloing and stage presence.”

Fair time
It’s that time of the summer … county fair time! A staple since 1958, the Fayette County Fair in Dunbar Township, continues to feature a plethora of farm animals, 4-H projects, fabulous food and quality entertainment. This year’s fair — which runs through Aug. 3 — is no exception. Country singer Jo Dee Messina takes the Lady Luck Stage beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, while home-grown favorites The Clarks appear Saturday at 7 p.m. The Fabulous Hubcaps wrap up the weekend entertainment Sunday evening. Listen for The Clarks ode to the Fayette County Fair in this classic, fan-favorite performance.

Look to the skies!
The truth is out there and it might be as close as your own backyard. The 14th annual Kecksburg UFO Festival is this weekend — July 26-28 — at the Kecksburg Volunteer Fire Department in Mt. Pleasant Township.
The weekend includes a full slate of UFO, Bigfoot and other paranormal research and discussions. And don’t forget the cornhole tournament, bed races, as well food and craft vendors.

Stars are up there
In case you don’t see any of those aforementioned UFOs, there are always stars up there.
Head on over to the Murrysville Community Park and join The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh for a “star party” Sunday. The program is presented by the Murrysville Recreation Department.
Bring a lawn chair, a telescope (if you have one, if not no worries) and some bug spray and enjoy an evening of stargazing.

Groove out
It’s summertime, so Jeff Jimerson has time to leave the confines of PPG Paints Arena and his Pittsburgh Penguins anthem-singing gig to head out to Hempfield Park.
Jimerson and Airborne will perform at noon July 28 in the park’s new Hempfield Smail Auto Group Amphitheater.
Concessions on Sunday will be available from Hempfield Parks and Recreation and McFeely’s Arctic Ice.
