3 hospitalized in Route 28 crash in East Deer

Three people were taken to local hospitals as a result of a crash Monday on Route 28 in East Deer that snarled traffic in the northbound lanes for nearly two hours.
At 3:24 p.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of Route 28 in East Deer, near the Bailies Run Road overpass, according to information released Friday by state police.
A Toyota 4Runner, driven by Lynne Fiedor, 52, of Lower Burrell, hit a guiderail on the grass median side of the northbound lanes, police said. Robert Fiedor, 80, of Lower Burrell was a passenger.
The car then became airborne and dislodged the guiderail across the northbound lanes, police said.
A Jeep Renegade, driven by William Larkin, 39, of Tarentum ran over the guiderail lying in the lanes.
Lynne Fiedor was taken by ambulance, and Robert Fiedor was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for what police called suspected injuries.
Larkin was taken to UPMC St. Margaret hospital near Aspinwall with minor injuries.
All three were wearing seat belts, police said.
The crash closed the northbound lanes between the Creighton and Tarentum exits for about 1.5 hours Monday afternoon.
Trooper Anthony Bertoluzzi led the investigation for the state police.
