A Beaver County teen who was shot while attending Pittsburgh’s 2019 Fourth of July fireworks celebration downtown has died.

Keyari A. Wynn, 18, of Aliquippa, was 16 years old when he and another teen were shot near Agnes R. Katz Plaza at Penn Avenue and Seventh Street as crowds were leaving following the holiday fireworks display.

Wynn suffered a gunshot wound to the head, and died Friday morning at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A North Side man, Camerin Caldwell, 18 at the time, turned himself in to police a little more than a week after the shooting. He was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

Caldwell has a status hearing scheduled for Tuesday in Allegheny County Court, according to court records. His attorney could not be immediately reached for comment.

At the time of the incident, Pittsburgh police Major Crimes Commander Victor Joseph called it a “ridiculous act of senseless violence.”

Police said the shooting was likely connected to fights earlier that night instigated by music from two opposing groups.

Police said one altercation took place in Point State Park near the end of a fireworks display, and the groups ran into each other again at the plaza later.

Pittsburgh Police spokesman Maurice Matthews said additional homicide charges are not currently pending against Caldwell.
