Pine’s annual summer activity camp wrapped up six days before the Aug. 22 start of the Pine-Richland School District academic year.

For those who like to plan ahead, registration for next year’s campo opens Feb. 15.

Themes for 2024 varied from week to week, with kids’ favorites including Mystical Magic, Under the Sea and, of course, Superheroes.

Campers had the opportunity to participate in various activities, greet guests and embark on field trips. Visitors from the Audubon Society, Northern Regional Police Department, Wexford Volunteer Fire Company, MAD Science and Allegheny County park rangers provided experiences for children such as building beaver habitats, conducting fun and engagin science experiments, and painting their own canvases.

Pine’s camp counselors were highly involved this summer, building solid connections with each other, the kids and other township staff members. Counselors also contributed by devising several activities for the campers and ideas for Pine’s social media pages.

This year marks the first time that the summer activity camp was 10 weeks long, as opposed to its past eight-week duration.

As summer nears its close, here are Pine’s upcoming events:

• Dog Day at the Splash Pad, Sept. 2, with sessions from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 2:30.

• Super Pup Fun Run/Walk, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 8.

• Revving Into Reading: Touch-a-Truck Library Grand Opening Extravaganza, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14.
