Summer brings community festivities to Marshall Township

Summer is sizzling in Marshall Township with two upcoming concerts, an outdoor movie, and its annual community day.

The 56 East Band with Special Guest “The Hex” of Waddell’s Rock School will be in concert July 28, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the Elias Fry Barn in Knob Hill Community Park, off Knob Road, said Jessica Drozd, Marshall’s recreation director.

This concert is sponsored by Murphy’s Music Center in Leechburg, Armstrong County.

“We have bands every year, usually two, this is the first year we have added a third band. The response is usually great. We generally see 150 to 200 or more people at each concert,” Drozd said.

On Aug. 4, The Eldorado Band will play at the Elias Fry Barn from 7 to 10 p.m.

The township also hosted a July 14 concert featuring No Excuse.

Marshall Township’s popular Community Day will take place Aug. 26 beginning at 4 p.m. at Knob Hill Community Park.

Festivities scheduled so far include face painting, airbrush tattoos, a balloon artist, a caricature artist, inflatables, a trackless train ride, a 360-degree music video booth, mobile laser tag, spin art, a rock climbing wall, vendor booths and lots of great food.

“We will also have a live band play from 7 to 9 p.m. — Twan Moore and the Party Train — and then the night will finish with Zambelli fireworks at about 9:15 p.m.,” Drozd said.

The budget was raised a little for the 2023 event due to rising costs from some vendors, according to Drozd. The 2023 budget for Community Day is $32,000, compared to 2022 at $30,000, according to the 2023 Marshall Township budget.

The last summer session of Movies in the Park will feature “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” on Aug. 18. Movies begin at dusk and are shown outdoors at McFadden Field in Knob Hill Park. Bridge City Braces will provide free popcorn, Drozd said.
