A large flatbed truck flipped onto its side Friday morning near the intersection of Washington and Connor roads in Mt. Lebanon, injuring no one but snarling traffic along both major arteries.
Mt. Lebanon police, fire and medics responded to the crash reported at 10:01 a.m. in the right southbound lane of Washington Road in front of Levin Mattress. The accident scene was near the base of a hill taking traffic along Washington, also known as Route 19, from the intersection toward South Hills Village mall.
The truck’s single occupant, an unidentified woman, got out of the cab unharmed, said Steve Ruby, deputy Mt. Lebanon police chief.
The truck with Tennessee license plates was making a left turn from Connor onto Washington when the driver apparently lost control, he said.
The truck’s white cab was stretched across a sidewalk when first responders arrived. They channeled traffic around the site as emergency crews made sure there were no more occupants inside and that there was no threat of fire.
Firefighters from neighboring Dormont also responded. There were no other vehicles involved.
The busy intersection and roads leading to it encompass a range of businesses, including Galleria Mall and Fresh Market.
Information on what caused the driver to lose control was not available from accident investigators. The truck was later removed , and normal traffic flow through the intersection resumed Friday afternoon. It was not known if any charges would be filed, but Ruby said the investigation is continuing.
