Pittsburgh police said they are continuing to investigate a shooting on the South Side early Sunday that sent two people to the hospital.

Police responded to South 12th Street and Bedford Square about 3 a.m. to investigate after receiving a ShotSpotter notification.

When officers arrived, public information officer Maurice Matthews reported, they discovered a man with a gunshot wound to his back and a woman who was also injured. Police reported she suffered a graze wound on her left leg.

The unidentified man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, Matthews reported. The woman was also transported to the hospital for treatment.

Witnesses told investigators a person inside a vehicle fired shots at the victims before fleeing in an unknown direction, police reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
