The Sewickley Valley Community Fund has approved a grant to the Fern Hollow Nature Center in Sewickley Heights. The grant will be used by Fern Hollow to leverage a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development for a project to connect Fern Hollow and the neighboring Sewickley Heights Historical Society to public sewage. Currently, both use an outdated septic system. The new sewage connection is the first step in a major expansion for Fern Hollow. The center is launching a major capital campaign to renovate its present building and add a large addition. It will feature two new classrooms with outdoor access as well as expanded office space for the center’s staff.
