The Garden Club of America awarded a summer environmental studies scholarship to Sewickley native Eliza Atwood. Atwood was awarded the Clara Carter Higgins Summer Environmental Studies Scholarship, which was established to encourage study and careers in the environmental field. Atwood is a rising senior at Brown University studying environmental science with a conservation Sscience and policy focus. Her summer research will utilize DNA metabarcoding of field samples to document plant-herbivore interactions in Yellowstone National Park. She and her team aim to understand the evolving relationship between large herbivorous mammals and their environment so that these iconic populations can be properly managed and sustained.
