Commuters relying on Route 51 to get where they’re going likely will need to add more time to the drive starting Monday, weather permitting.
Single-lane restrictions will be in place in both directions on Route 51 between the northbound and southbound on-ramps at the I-79 Coraopolis/McKees Rocks interchange from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. Crews will remove guiderail and install barrier along the shoulder to support structure work on I-79, PennDOT said.
The shoulders between the northbound and southbound on-ramps at the I-79 Coraopolis/McKees Rocks interchange will remain closed around-the-clock in each direction through mid-November.
The work is part of the $43.9 million I-79 “S-bend” project that includes pavement reconstruction and bridge preservation work on five main roads (I-79 north and south over Clever Road, I-79 north and south over Route 51, and the Neville Island Bridge).
There also will be milling and paving of three ramps at the Route 51 (Coraopolis/McKees Rocks) interchange. The project includes guiderail replacement, highway lighting, new pavement markings and other miscellaneous construction work.
