GIRARD — A female pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in northwestern Pennsylvania, authorities said.

Police in Girard said the 18-year-old woman was struck by an eastbound train shortly before 11 p.m. Monday at the railroad crossing on Mechanic Street.

Emergency dispatchers said police found a bicycle at the scene and originally thought she had been cycling, but later found that the bicycle belonged to someone else.

The woman’s name wasn’t immediately released. The Erie County coroner’s office and borough police are investigating.
