Western Pa. Fios customers could lose some channels amid renegotiation with Cox Media
Verizon Fios customers could see a change in their programming.
The internet and TV service’s contract with Cox Media Group ends at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, meaning Western Pennsylvania customers could lose WPXI NBC and PCNC (Pittsburgh Cable News Channel).
“We are working hard to negotiate with them to reach a new agreement,” the company said in a statement. “However, (Cox Media Group) has proposed charging significantly more for its programming. Verizon remains committed to making these channels available to our customers, but simply cannot agree to such unreasonable increases.”
The contract also includes WPXI MeTV and WPXI Laff.
“When content deals expire, we have to renegotiate with content providers to continue to offer their programming,” Verizon wrote.
Dish Network customers also lost access to WPXI last month when the satellite TV provider’s agreement with the station expired on Nov. 28.
