A Washington County woman was killed early Sunday when the car she was driving was struck by a wrong-way driver along Interstate 79 in North Strabane, state police said.

Holly A. Davis, 56, of Canonsburg died in the 1:45 a.m. head-on crash near mile marker 42. Moments before the collision, state police were dispatched to the area for a report of a driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes, Trooper Donald Zimbicki reported.

“While en route to the location, a crash was reported in the location of the wrong-way vehicle,” Zimbicki wrote in a police report.

Davis was struck by a southbound vehicle driven by a 26-year-old Washington woman. The Washington driver was flown by medical helicopter from the scene to an undisclosed hospital for treatment, Zimbicki said.

The coroner’s office said Davis was wearing a seat belt. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation continues.
