Troopers: Icy conditions contribute to school bus crash in Indiana County that sends 3 students and driver to hospital
State police in Indiana believe icy road conditions contributed to a school bus crash in rural northern Indiana County Thursday that sent three students and the driver to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.
Trooper Clifford Greenfield said state police are continuing to investigate the crash that occurred at 7:15 a.m. along Churchill Road in Montgomery Township where a bus went off the roadway and overturned in a ditch.
The 17 students aboard the bus attend school in the Purchase Line School District.
“Upon arrival, students were being assessed by first responders and minor injuries were reported,” Greenfield said..
Police reported the bus exited the east edge of the roadway, traveled into a ditch, and overturned onto its driver’s side as the driver was negotiating a right curve in the roadway. Greenfield said troopers observed icy road conditions at the scene.
The school bus driver and three students were transported to area hospitals for treatment of what are believed to be minor injuries, he said.
The school bus sustained minor damage and had to be towed.
