TribLIVE.com and WTAE announced a new content partnership Wednesday that will deliver enhanced coverage of local news to viewers and readers in Western Pennsylvania.

The news partnership brings together two of Pittsburgh’s most trusted, reliable news brands to enable great journalism on issues that matter to the region, leaders of both news organizations said.

“We are delighted to partner with WTAE and Hearst, which have a stellar track record of supporting innovation,” Trib Total Media President and CEO Jennifer Bertetto said. “This partnership is yet another important milestone in our commitment to being news leaders in Western Pennsylvania.”

“WTAE Channel 4 and TribLIVE.com understand trustworthy neighborhood news is paramount to our viewers and readers. Western Pa. is a wonderful tapestry of townships, boroughs, and communities,” WTAE President and General Manager Charles W. Wolfertz III said. “This partnership ensures our unwavering commitment to reporting on impactful local stories.”

The Trib and WTAE will share newsroom resources as they cover daily news and will partner on special reports and live events.

“We have a long history of breaking important stories and producing in-depth investigative pieces,” Trib Executive Editor Luis Fabregas said. “Our colleagues at WTAE share our desire to strengthen local news with each other’s knowledge and expertise.”

The WTAE Channel 4/TribLIVE news partnership begins immediately.

“Now more than ever, news consumers want to know they can trust that the news they are receiving is accurate,” WTAE News Director Jim Parsons said. “For decades, viewers and readers throughout Western Pennsylvania have trusted the hard-working journalists at TribLIVE and WTAE Channel 4 to get the facts right in telling compelling stories about the people and issues in their neighborhoods. I’m thrilled that we’ll be pooling the resources of our two newsrooms to make those connections with readers and viewers even stronger.”

The Trib is a multiplatform news organization that operates TribLIVE.com and prints two daily editions of the Tribune-Review, the Westmoreland and Valley News Dispatch editions. Trib Total Media also operates TribLIVE Local, which includes dozens of hyper-local websites focused on communities in Western Pennsylvania. The Trib prints 11 weeklies and five monthlies.

WTAE is a digital multimedia company providing news, weather, sports, information and entertainment content on WTAE Channel 4, WTAE.com and Cozi TV. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 is honored with prestigious broadcast journalism awards including the Peabody and Edward R. Murrow Award. Pittsburgh’s Action Weather 4 is Western Pennsylvania’s most recognized weather forecast provider and is available on air, online and on smartphones.

WTAE Channel 4, the ABC station in the nation’s 26th largest market, is owned by Hearst Television, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hearst, a media company whose global holdings include 34 local television stations and two local radio stations.
