The state police took a man into custody Friday after thwarting an incident that could have ended in a suicide.

Troopers were dispatched around 3:40 p.m. to a parking lot at Indiana Regional Medical Center in White Township for a report of “an armed, suicidal man in a vehicle,” Trooper Cliff Greenfield said.

The man “was quickly taken into custody” by troopers, Greenfield said. Police found a gun in the man’s vehicle.

The man, who police have not named, remained in custody Saturday.

Greenfield stressed there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Indiana Regional Medical Center, a not-for-profit hospital, was formed in 1914 and currently maintains 166 beds. It is Indiana County’s largest employer.
