Strong thunderstorms capable of producing hail were projected to hit parts of Western Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Moon Township issued special weather statements for several Western Pennsylvania communities, warning that hail up to the size of nickels was possible with the storms.

Roadways such as I-70, I-79 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike were also expected to be affected.
