As the first significant snowfall of the season rolled through Western Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Seven Springs Mountain Resort announced its official season opening.

The Somerset County resort, which received its first snow of the season Nov. 10, will open for skiing Saturday. A celebration will include a live DJ, cookies, cocoa and prize giveaways.

Lift access will begin at 8 a.m. All resort services will be available, but some slopes might not be open depending on the weather conditions.

Spokesperson Anna Weltz said an opening date has not been set for Hidden Valley and Laurel Mountain — two other area ski resorts held by the same owner. Denver-based Vail Resorts acquired Seven Springs, Hidden Valley and Laurel Mountain near the end of 2021 from Pittsburgh Pirates owner Bob Nutting.

Anywhere from 2 to 5 inches of snow were reported Tuesday in Western Pennsylvania.

Since last ski season, Seven Springs has installed 1,600 feet of snowmaking line along its Lost Boy Trail and updated lift infrastructure on the North Face, Gunnar, Polar Bear Express and Southwind lifts.

Lighting has been updated in select areas, including Avalanche and Giant Steps slopes and the Arctic Blast terrain park. Accessibility improvements were made at the resort’s hotel, including accessible parking and heated sidewalks.

The resort also replaced its 7/10 Bistro with a new restaurant, Rolling Chopstick, which will serve sushi, ramen bowls and mochi ice cream.
