A Somerset man is accused of assaulting a 15-month-old boy, causing the child to bite his tongue and lose consciousness, according to police.

Jared Lee Lehman, 24, is being held in the Somerset County Prison on $100,000 bail. He is charged with aggravated assault, child endangerment and related offenses.

According to court papers, the alleged incident happened April 24 at an apartment where Lehman was living with the boy’s mother. Police said Lehman told them he grabbed the child’s arm and pulled it suddenly because the boy was making moaning noises. The child bit his lip and went unconscious, police said.

Doctors at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh said the boy has a severe brain injury that was likely the result of abuse, according to court papers. He remains in the intensive care unit, police said.

Lehman did not have an attorney listed in online court records. A May 7 preliminary hearing is set.
