Russell Marycz of Jefferson Hills is wanted on a charge of attempted rape of a teen boy in Caroll Township.

Authorities are searching for a registered sex offender from Jefferson Hills who is charged with attempted rape of a teen last month in Washington County.

Russell Marycz, 43, is charged with attempted rape; kidnapping, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and corruption of minors; criminal solicitation; simple assault; and interference with custody of a child.

Carroll Township police allege Marycz offered a 15-year-old boy $500 and then $1,000 to engage in sex before threatening to force the teen to have sex if he wouldn’t agree to it. According to court documents, police said the encounter began at 11 p.m. Sept. 27 in Monongahela and continued until 1:15 a.m. Sept. 28, ending on the Ripepi Winery property in Carroll Township.

According to a complaint filed Monday in the case, the boy’s mother told police her son reported being approached by a man in his 40s near Second and Chess streets in Monongahela. According to the account, the boy responded to the man’s request for directions and walked with him for a short distance. But the man grabbed the boy’s arm when he attempted to leave, and the boy became scared and continued to walk with the man.

Police said the man told the boy a fictitious story that he was trying to find his girlfriend, whom he claimed could be in danger.

When they arrived at the winery property, the man asked to have sex with and “physically confronted” the boy, according to the complaint.

The boy told police that, when he refused, the man tackled him, punched him and threatened, “If you run, I’ll hurt you.” the complaint stated.

The boy eventually broke free and phoned his mother, who arrived to pick him up, police said.

Police said Marycz’s girlfriend identified him as the man who had walked with the boy, after viewing security camera footage. The boy and others who were at a bonfire that the boy and man had passed identified Marycz from a photo lineup, police said.

According to the complaint, Marycz called Carroll Township police and told them he’d run into the boy twice while walking after a fight with his girlfriend and each time gave the boy a cigarette. Marcyz allegedly told police he saw the boy a third time while walking near the winery and spoke to him before the boy returned into a wooded area.

Police said Marycz agreed to come to the police station to make a statement but didn’t show up.

According to police, Marycz is known to frequent Monongahela.

Anyone with information concerning his whereabouts is asked to call 911 or contact Carroll Township police at 724-483-5556.
