Flights from Pittsburgh International Airport to several destinations are getting off the ground this week.
British Airways will resume flights between Pittsburgh and London Heathrow Airport on Friday. This will be the first time since early 2020 that British Airways will serve Pittsburgh with direct flights to London. The year-round service will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Service to Montreal also is resuming this week, while low-cost carriers are launching service to Minneapolis and Newark.
Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis called the return of London service a coup for the region.
“To the community that supported the flight when it came back after 20 years, it was a big deal to get it back in the first place,” Cassotis said in a release. “(British Airways) really, really took the time to understand and believe in this market.”
Another returning international flight is Air Canada’s service between Pittsburgh and Montreal, which began Wednesday. Daily service will operate on a year-round basis and fly on a 76-seat regional aircraft.
Starting Thursday, the ultra-low-cost carrier Sun Country will begin seasonal service to Minneapolis, with flights operating twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays through September.
Spirit Airlines, another ultra-low cost carrier, will start service to Newark International Airport in New Jersey on Sunday. Spirit will run run daily flights on a 228-seat Airbus A321.
