A pair of crashes shut down the westbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Beaver County for about eight hours Thursday.
One person was taken to a hospital, according to state police.
The first crash was reported at 5:39 a.m. in New Sewickley near Tulip Drive. A truck entering the highway from the shoulder collided with another truck traveling west. One of the drivers was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, police said.
The second crash was reported at 5:53 a.m. at mile marker 20.2, also in New Sewickley. The driver of an SUV was attempting to pass a truck when troopers said the two collided.
The truck driver told police conditions were foggy and eastbound travelers were indicating there was an incident ahead by flashing their lights. The SUV was not far enough ahead of the truck when it attempted to merge from the left to the right lanes, police said.
It was unclear if either driver was injured. The highway reopened around 2 p.m.
