Here are some of the latest news items from this morning, Friday, April 14, 2023:

Washington Pike Bridge to temporarily close

The Washington Pike bridge over Chartiers Creek in Bridgeville and South Fayette Township will be closed through 5 a.m. Monday morning, according to PennDOT.

Crews will be demolishing and replacing one half of the bridge. The work is part of a $10.78 million improvement project that will widen the structure to seven lanes.

Drivers from west of the bridge on the South Fayette side will be able to take Millers Run Road (Route 50) westbound, take the ramp to northbound Interstate 79, then take the Heidelberg/Collier (Exit 55) off-ramp and follow it to Route 50.

Drivers from east of the bridge can follow Route 50 eastbound, turn left on to the ramp toward I-79 Erie/Washington, take the I-79 South ramp toward Washington, then take the Route 50 Bridgeville (Exit 54) off-ramp, turn right onto Route 50 (Millers Run Road) and follow it to the Washington Pike.

A temporary pedestrian shuttle will provide service during the weekend, as the bridge sidewalks will also be closed. The hours of service will occur from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day. Stops will be located at the intersection of Route 50 and James Street in Bridgeville and the intersection of Route 50 and Millers Run Road (Route 50)/Washington Pike (Route 3003).

The Joseph B. Fay Co. is the prime contractor.
