Bricks lay on the ground after a vehicle slammed into a tattoo shop late Thursday in McKeesport.

Here are a few morning news items for Friday, March 1:

Tattoo shop damaged by vehicle crash in McKeesport

A vehicle crashed into a tattoo shop along Versailles Avenue in McKeesport late Thursday.

TribLive news partner WTAE reported the crash happened in the 3200 block of Versailles Avenue.

An employee of the shop told the station a vehicle crashed into the building, breaking an exterior brick wall of the shop, and then drove off.

No injuries were reported.

It was at least the second time a vehicle had crashed into a building this week in Allegheny County. On Tuesday, a vehicle crashed into a church building in Bridgeville.

Temperatures warming up this weekend

After a couple days of winter-like weather, spring appears to be arriving early this weekend, according to meteorologists at TribLive news partner WTAE.

WTAE meteorologist Mike Harvey reports that Friday will start with sunshine before making way to increased cloud cover in the afternoon. However, high temperatures will reach the mid 50s in the Pittsburgh area.

Harvey said we should expect some rain showers starting around 10 p.m. Friday, continuing into early Saturday morning.

The weekend is expected to be mostly warm and dry.

Saturday will see high temperatures hit above 50 degrees, and Sunday is expected to eclipse 60.

Though the official start of spring is not until mid March, WTAE meteorologist Ashley Dougherty reported that March 1 marks Pittsburgh’s start of meteorological spring, which is based on weather patterns and not the earth’s position to the sun.

A leader at Pittsburgh’s largest health care company is retiring at the end of 2024, announced UPMC official Thursday.

After more than 40 years, Diane Holder is set to retire from her roles as president and CEO of UPMC Health Plan at the end of 2024.

“Diane has been a true strategic leader and partner throughout her long and successful career at UPMC,” said Leslie C. Davis, president and CEO, in a press release.

UPMC’s health insurance plan has grown fast over the years, and officials said Holder was instrumental in its rise.

Holder serves on several local boards and leadership positions, including roles at the University of Pittsburgh, United Way and Allegheny Conference.

She has been recognized as one of the “100 Most Influential People in Health Care” by Modern Healthcare and received a “Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania” by former Gov. Tom Wolf.
