Primanti Bros. to open in Kennywood

Kennywood visitors will be able to order up a Pittsburgh staple this season — a Primanti Bros. sandwich.

The local restaurant and bar chain will open its first theme-park location in the park later this spring.

According to a press release, the joint venture is being done this season to celebrate Kennywood’s 125th birthday and Primanti Bros.’s 90th birthday.

“I’ve been going to Kennywood and Primanti Bros. for more than 40 years — just like many Pittsburghers,” said Adam Golomb, CEO of Primanti Bros in a statement. “So, finalizing this partnership to open Primanti Bros. inside Kennywood has us very excited.”

“As a staple in the Pittsburgh community, we are thrilled to bring another beloved Pittsburgh brand to Kennywood this season as we both celebrate milestone years,” Kennywood General Manager Mark Pauls said.

The new food space will be located in the Lost Kennywood area of the West Mifflin park.

Kennywood is set to open for the season on April 22.

McKees Rocks bridge closures

Drivers should expect short-term closures Thursday along the McKees Rocks Bridge.

The bridge will close in each direction from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for line painting, according to PennDOT.

Traffic will be detoured via the West End Bridge.

The repairs are part of an ongoing restoration project that is projected to be finished in 2025.

Fire risk in Western Pa. continues

Much of Western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny and Westmoreland counties, remained under a special weather statement Thursday morning because of dry conditions that the National Weather Service said could “create an elevated risk of fire spread.”

The dry conditions will be most significant in the afternoon, when minimum relative humidity levels will drop to around 20% to 25% and wind speeds are projected to increase to around 10 mph.

A NWS advisory urged residents to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes or matches.

“If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly,” the warning says.

Police respond to McKeesport incident

McKeesport police responded to an incident late Wednesday near the intersection of Lysle Boulevard and Center Street, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI.

One person was taken to an area hospital, according to officials.

Video shows officers placing evidence markers, and they were also seen going through cars in a candy business parking lot.
