Police investigate aggravated assault in East Liberty
Pittsburgh police are investigating the assault of a man in East Liberty on Saturday evening.
Pittsburgh Public Safety said officers responded to the 6200 block of Kalida Drive for a 63-year-old man who was assaulted just after 8:30 p.m.
The victim suffered an injury to his nose and his face and body were covered in blood, officers said. He told police he was jumped by several juveniles and severely beaten while returning home, according the report.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to stable.
Witnesses provided a name and description of the alleged primary suspect, who was found and questioned by police. He was later released to the custody of his mother. The investigation is ongoing.
Criminal charges expected after The Panther Pit bar raid
Pennsylvania Police’s Bureau of Liquor Control and Pittsburgh police conducted a search warrant for liquor sales without a license at The Panther Pit on Meyran Avenue in Oakland around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a report from state police.
Officers seized over 345 liters of liquor and wine and about 243 gallons of beer and malt or brewed beverages, the report said.
The release said criminal charges will be filed.
According to a release from the Allegheny County Health Department, the bar was previously shut down in February after an inspection because of a “strong odor” of sewage gas, and no accessible supplies for employees to wash their hands.
South Side patrol stats released for first weekend in September
There were 10 traffic stops, 10 traffic citations, 35 parking citations and 14 tows during patrols conducted in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood from Sept. 7-10.
The weekend also included 42 non-traffic citations ranging from open containers and public urination, to openly smoking marijuana.
In mid-July, Pittsburgh police began a focused deployment of a dedicated unit patrolling the entertainment district in the city’s South Side neighborhood on weekends.
