Shadyside pharmacy robbed at gunpoint

No injuries were reported in the armed robbery of a Shadyside pharmacy Thursday night, Pittsburgh police said.

Officers responded to the robbery at a Walgreens in the 5900 block of Centre Avenue just after 8:15 p.m.

Employees told officers that a man, presumed to be an adult, entered the store, approached a cashier, pointed a firearm and demanded money from the register, police said.

The man fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police were investigating.

Memorial Day forecast looks wet, stormy

Those getting an early start to their Memorial Day weekend on Friday appear to have made a good choice, as rain and thunderstorms are set to mar much of the rest of the holiday weekend.

The weather Friday will be “great,” with some showers south of Pittsburgh but dry for most of the area, and highs in the low 80s, National Weather Service meteorologist Jared Rackley said.

Some showers are expected early Saturday morning with thunderstorms in the afternoon, Rackley said. Temperatures will reach the mid-80s.

After Friday, Sunday will be the next decent day for outdoor activities, Rackley said. With highs again in the low-to-mid 80s, rain chances will start to creep up in the late afternoon, with a few isolated thunderstorms, but most of that coming overnight Sunday into Monday.

But Memorial Day is expected to be a washout with rain on-and-off throughout most of the day, Rackley said. It will be cooler with a high in the upper 70s to 80.
