Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who was the second man to walk on the moon, proved that one is never too old to be married when, on his 93rd birthday, he wed his longtime girlfriend, a University of Pittsburgh graduate.
Aldrin, who made his fourth trip into matrimony, married Anca Faur, 63, who earned a doctorate degree in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1996, according to the New York Post. Faur is the executive vice president of Buzz Aldrin Ventures.
Aldrin made the announcement Friday in a very 21st century way — on Twitter. He said the small ceremony occurred in Los Angeles.
“We were joined in holy matrimony in a small private ceremony in Los Angeles & are as excited as eloping teenagers,” Aldrin said on Twitter.
He said he was married on the same day that he would be honored by Living Legends of Aviation.
A social media site, Wealthy Spy, said that Faur was born in Los Angeles and worked for a fuels cell company as a program manager for 20 years. It said she had accompanied Aldrin to astronaut-related events.
She accompanied Aldrin to an event marking the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing in July 2019, where President Trump attended. Aldrin was in a lunar module with Neil Armstrong, when Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon.
No indication from Aldrin on whether his three children from his first marriage in 1954, attended the ceremonies.
