An Indiana County man was charged Monday after state police said he fatally shot a dog and buried it on his Burrell Township property.

Robert McConnell, 71, is charged with felony and misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.

Troopers were called Thursday by a 19-year-old woman who reported her dog missing. Police weren’t able to locate the dog, but the woman contacted them again later after she found it buried on McConnell’s property.

The animal had been shot three times, according to police. McConnell had previously warned her to not enter his property.

The woman is being charged with criminal trespass and confinement of dogs, but nothing had been filed in district court Tuesday morning. Her identity was not released by investigators. No court action was set in McConnell’s case. He did not have an attorney listed in online court records.
