Walmart and TerraCycle are partnering on a recycling program offering $30 Walmart gift cards to be used for baby merchandise for customers turning in an old car seat from Sept. 16-30.

All car seats collected in this program will be recycled through TerraCycle, and each component will be diverted from the landfill, according to a news release issued by Walmart.

This first-ever recycling and gift card program for Walmart is being done in conjunction with National Baby Safety Month.

TerraCycle CEO Tom Szaky said he hopes the recycling event brings in enough car seats to “divert the plastic equivalent of approximately 35 million water bottles from landfills.”

Customers can trade in used car seats at the service desk in participating Walmarts, which includes stores at the Pittsburgh Mills, Harrison and elsewhere. To find a participating store near you, visit the car seat recycling webpage.

The $30 gift cards can be used in store or online.
