Former Indiana County car dealership general manager charged with theft, forgery
A former Indiana County car dealership general manager is set for a preliminary hearing next week on nearly 250 charges and summary counts for allegedly keeping $60,000 in vehicle sale proceeds, according to court papers.
Kevin T. Albright, 48, of Indiana, is charged with theft, tampering with records, unsworn falsification, forgery, bad checks and numerous summary citations. He is free on $1,000 unsecured bond.
State police started looking into multiple complaints made about title issues related to vehicles purchased from Indiana Auto Mart in White Township in May 2019, according to Trooper Cliff Greenfield. A few buyers told troopers they had to pay PennDOT to avoid having their registration or license suspended after checks submitted by Indiana Auto Mart bounced.
Troopers learned that Albright was general manager of the Oakland Avenue used car lot before it closed in May 2019, Greenfield said. Investigators determined that Albright didn’t send $15,000 in taxes and fees or paperwork to PennDOT for numerous sale transactions between Dec. 5, 2018, and May 15, 2019, according to a criminal complaint.
Troopers also accuse him of writing at least 14 bad checks worth about $4,000 to PennDOT for taxes and fees, failing to pay a business associate $42,000 for 15 vehicles purchased at auction, not sending payment to activate 12 vehicle warranties and other crimes, Greenfield said. Several purchasers identified signatures that Albright allegedly forged on PennDOT documents, police said.
During an interview with troopers, Albright took responsibility for issues at the dealership, according to court papers.
Indiana Auto Mart was registered as a corporation in 2013 and has no officers listed on its filing, according to state records. The former car lot’s website says it was established in 2016 and provided notary services, detailing and financing.
Albright did not have an attorney listed in online court records. He could not be reached. A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday.
