State police said a Ford City man suffered a medical emergency Saturday while driving in Indiana County and died after his car crashed.

Richard T. Toy, 54, was traveling west on Route 422 in Armstrong Township just before 3 p.m. when the Honda Civic he was driving sideswiped a guardrail, according to troopers. The car continued to travel along the guardrail for about 960 feet and, when it ended at the intersection with Wood Road, the car slammed into a utility pole.

The crash happened just west of Shelocta. Toy was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center by ambulance where he was pronounced dead, police said.
