A quarter-century has not abated the FBI’s desire to find out who killed Sarah Boehm and Kathryn Menendez and left their bodies in an Ohio park.
Boehm was 14 when she was last seen alive leaving her Rochester Township home in Beaver County on July 14, 1994.
Her body was discovered by hunters in November 1994 in Berlin Lake Wildlife Area, located in Portage County, Ohio.
Her body was not identified until 2003, when a detective from the Beaver County District Attorney’s office searched the national “Jane Doe network” and connected the disappearance with the body.
In the last 25 years, the FBI and state and local law enforcement partners have followed up on multiple leads. So far, none have led to the arrest of the person who killed Boehm.
“No matter how long it takes, the FBI will follow every lead in this case,” said Special Agent in Charge Robert Jones. “This community deserves closure, and this little girl deserves to rest in peace. The FBI, our law enforcement partners and prosecutors, work together every day to find justice for the victims of violent crime.”
Similarly, Kathryn Menendez, 17, of Alliance, Ohio, was reported missing by her mother during August 1994. Only a few days after she was reported missing, Menendez’s body was found a half-mile from Boehm’s in the same park.
It is unknown if the two unsolved murders are connected. Investigators continue to work on both cases and say anyone who has information may call the FBI at 412-432-4000.
