Drought conditions hit Pittsburgh after spell of warm, dry weather
Warm and dry weather has persisted in Pittsburgh for several days now and, unfortunately for residents, that has a cost.
Much of Southwestern Pennsylvania is experiencing moderate or severe drought currently, according to the Pittsburgh office of the National Weather Service.
Almost all of Allegheny County is in moderate drought, the northern edge of the county, and as well as most of Washington County and the western parts of Westmoreland County.
The eastern half of Westmoreland County is experiencing severe drought, according to the weather service.
The new Drought Monitor, released yesterday, shows a slight expansion in drought in OH/WV. A large area of D4 (exceptional drought) still lingers in eastern Ohio. Meteorologists at TribLive newspartner WTAE say the dry and warm weather will continue.
It will remain two to four degrees above average in the low/mid 80s through the weekend, said WTAE Chief Meteorologist Mike Harvey.
And the same pattern continues into next week.
Expect drought conditions to persist and likely worsen, said the weather service.
