For the past decade, the nonprofit Cranberry Township Community Chest has hosted fundraisers and tapped local businesses to sponsor community projects.
The latest addition to the Community’s Chests efforts is a $300,000 renovation and expansion of the 17-year-old Rotary Amphitheater in Community Park, which was sponsored by Armstrong, the township’s cable and internet provider.
The company has signed on for a six-year sponsorship and will have its logo prominently displayed on the popular venue.
“Cranberry is built on community involvement and partnerships, and this is just another example of that commitment,” said township manager Dan Santoro.
“Armstrong has long been one of Cranberry’s biggest supporters, and we are beyond thankful for their support in helping us make the township a desirable place to live, work and play,” he said.
Renovations include reconstruction of the roofline, electrical improvements, a new sound system, refurbished dressing and more.
The venue also was made accessible for people with physical challenges through a grant from the Edith L. Trees Charitable Trust.
Additionally, the project received significant donations from the Cranberry Sunrise and Noon Rotaries as well as First Energy Corp.
The amphitheater is regularly used for movies in the park, live theater, music concerts and other performances.
One of the first major events scheduled for the newly renovated facility is the township’s annual celebration of diversity, CranFest, which is scheduled from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on June 10.
The event will feature food trucks and musical and dance performances representing various ethnic backgrounds.
The nonprofit organization also hosts Community Days, which is scheduled to take place this year from July 8-10 in Community Park.
Armstrong officials say sponsoring the amphitheater is part of its commitment to the community.
“We’ve made a commitment to keep residents connected and have made upgrades throughout Cranberry Township,” said Joe Taylor, general manager for Armstrong’s Zelienople office.
“Given the challenges of 2020, I look forward to attending many events at the amphitheater,” he said.
