State police in Uniontown arrested a Uniontown couple in connection with a strong-arm robbery of an 80-year-old Dunbar Township man outside his home.
David E. Millero, 29, and Tiffany L. Evans, 27, were arrested on multiple criminal charges in connection with the robbery and assault of John O. Welsh about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Troopers identified Millero and Evans on Friday after releasing a photograph of the late-model dark blue Chevrolet Malibu the pair was in when the robbery occurred.
State Trooper Nicole Sigwalt reported in court documents Welsh had just visited an ATM at the PNC Bank branch on Route 119 in Connellsville, stopped at a McDonald’s restaurant for a coffee and returned to his nearby home about 4:30 p.m.
Sigwalt reportedMillero was in the McDonald’s, where he noticed Welsh had “stacks of cash inside his wallet” and decided to follow him.
When Welsh stepped out of his car, Sigwalt alleges Millero exited his car, walked up to Welsh in his driveway and asked him directions to Butler. Welsh informed Millero he didn’t know the directions, and Sigwalt said Welsh turned around to go in his house “when Millero shoved Welsh to the ground” and grabbed his wallet.
Police said Welsh threw his coffee on Millero during the altercation.
Evans told troopers the couple fled south on Route 119 toward Uniontown, turned onto a side road and removed $260 before throwing the wallet out the window. Evans told police the couple spent the money on “crack cocaine.”
Welsh was not injured.
Millero is charged with robbery, simple assault, harassment, theft, criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property. He was arraigned before Brownsville District Judge Michael DeFino Jr. and ordered held in the county jail after failing to post $25,000 bail.
Evans is charged with two counts of conspiracy and receiving stolen property and is being held in the county prison on $10,000 bail. Preliminary hearings are tentatively scheduled Wednesday.
