CNX Foundation of Pittsburgh is accepting applications until Oct. 31 from nonprofits aligned with its objective to make tangible impacts in local, underserved urban and rural communities throughout the Appalachian region that face socioeconomic challenges, the organization said.
The key areas of the foundation’s focus include food insecurity, children’s health and wellness, recidivism and re-entry, the opioid epidemic and its societal impact, career awareness and technical-vocational training, and water quality and safety.
CNX will consider applicants from the corporation’s footprint in Western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, eastern Ohio and Virginia, said Brian Aiello, foundation chairman and CNX vice president of external relations.
“We established the CNX Foundation to truly make a difference in an outside-the-box way,” said Yemi Akinkugbe, foundation board member and CNX Resources Corp. chief excellence officer .
CNX Foundation, which is making its initial round of funding, has made a $30 million commitment over the next six years,” Aiello said.
“Too many of our local communities have been left behind as the region has continued to transform in recent years,” Aiello said.
