Bomb threats prompt evacuations at Washington County schools, close Beaver Valley Mall early
Several Washington County schools were evacuated Monday because of bomb threats
Trib news partner WTAE reported school districts involved were Fort Cherry, Burgettstown, California and Avella.
A separate threat was reported to Beaver Valley Mall, causing the mall to close for the rest of the day.
Avella students were bused home, and police, as well as a bomb-detecting dog, cleared the campus.
No explosive devices were found, authorities said.
“It’s frustrating for us,” said Avella Superintendent Cyril Walther. “We’re here to educate children, but our primary goal is to keep them safe while they are here.”
The FBI was also made aware of the bomb threats, according to WTAE.
Beaver Valley Mall closes early
The Beaver Valley Mall in Center, Beaver County, was also affected by a bomb threat. Police were called to the mall around 11:20 a.m., authorities said.
No evidence exists suggesting any of Monday’s bomb threats were related.
