Ambridge woman charged with killing children set to plead guilty
An Ambridge woman accused of killing her two children in February will plead guilty next week, according to the Beaver County District Attorney’s Office.
Krisinda Bright, 49, will plead guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in a Dec. 14 plea hearing, District Attorney David Lozier said in a statement.
Bright is accused of killing her children, Jasmin Cannady, 22, and Jeffrey Bright, 16, on Feb. 21 in their Maplewood Avenue home.
“Following discussions between (prosecutors), representatives of the deceased victims and the defendant, an agreement has been reached,” Lozier said in a statement.
On the day of the killings, Bright called police just after 1:30 p.m. and told the dispatcher that she had shot and killed her children, according to a criminal complaint filed against her.
When Ambridge officers arrived at the two-story brick home on Maplewood Avenue, the complaint said Bright was waiting for them on the front porch with dried blood on her hands, arms and clothing.
Bright told police she shot Cannady while she was lying in bed and then went downstairs and turned the gun on the younger child, according to the complaint. The gun didn’t fire the first time, and the teenager told her, “Please don’t shoot, I’m gonna call the police,” according to the complaint.
Police said Bright told them she fixed the gun and shot the child in the face. The teenager was still alive, but she said she fired again “because she didn’t want (the child) to suffer,” according to the complaint.
Each count of first-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence.
